Maoxiang Li (John)

Maoxiang (John) is a Partner focused on the Cathay CarTech Fund, and is based in the Shanghai office.

John joined Cathay Capital in 2017 and was previously Executive Director of Corporate Development at Lear Asia. He has nearly 15 years of automotive experience (both with OEMs and components) and served numerous positions in M&A, business development, strategic planning, and partnership & alliance.

John represented Lear, Valeo, General Motors and TRW and closed 15+ different projects in the form of joint venture, strategic cooperation, acquisition, buyout, and more. His key achievements in deal execution include completing the restructuring project between BAI and BHAP and numerous buyout projects at Lear; completing two shareholding restructuring projects and numerous buyout projects at Valeo; was a core team member of the GM China restructuring (he executed the GM-SAIC India Project, formed FAW-GM commercial vehicle JV and completed SGMW 10% share buyout) at General Motors.

John holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and International Business from Indiana University (Kelley School of Business), and an MBA in Finance from Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.
